Alumni Spotlight: Myi’a Sanders, Class of 2021

Myi’a Sanders is a professional learning partner at Big Thought, an impact nonprofit that closes the opportunity gap by equipping all youth in marginalized communities with the skills and tools they need to imagine and create their best lives and a better world.

“I'm passionate about educational equity because everyone deserves access to information and opportunities," said Myi'a. "Withholding or limiting information and opportunities is oppressive.”

Myi’a took part in the Leadership ISD Civic Voices Fellowship in 2020-2021 and says she is most grateful for learning about school board governance and finance. “The fellowship helped me to see entry points to help communities become informed voters. I recommend it to every and anyone looking to learn more about ways to impact the community and especially children.”

In addition to her role at Big Thought, Myi'a serves as vice president of Dallas Fort Worth Urban League Young Professionals, an organization committed to supporting the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex through service, civic engagement, and leadership development. And, she is also a member of the Junior League of Dallas, an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

In her free time, Myi’a loves cooking, writing, and hanging out with her father.
