Tarrant County
About the County
Tarrant County is Texas' third-most populous county with over 2 million residents, including 350,000 public school students. Of this student population, 68% are students of color, 55% are economically disadvantaged, and 20% are English language learners.
All students in Tarrant County are not receiving an equitable education, with massive discrepancies between districts. For example, only 37% of students in Lake Worth ISD graduate college, career, or military ready compared with 93% of graduates in Carroll ISD. Across Tarrant County, only 54% of students who began 8th grade in 2008 enrolled in college and a mere 23% graduated.
Leadership ISD is committed to improving outcomes for all students in Tarrant County and ensuring every child is fully prepared to reach their boldest dreams.

Our Impact
Since graduating our first cohort in 2017, we have trained nearly 350 community and school leaders through our fellowship programs. Additionally, we have developed successful coalitions, community partnerships, and Get Out The Vote efforts, while building strong, supportive relationships with over 35 trustees and trustee candidates in Tarrant County.
Through our collaborative efforts with partners and other like-minded community members, we have successfully advocated for significant policy and practice changes that have a tremendous impact on student experience and student outcomes, including:
Fort Worth ISD Racial Equity Policy - The board approved this policy in June of 2020 with 3 LISD alums on the board and a strong advocacy effort by LISD alumni.
Bond 2021 - LISD fellows and alumni mobilized broad support that was crucial to the passage of the $1.2B bond for Fort Worth ISD, the largest in the district’s history.
FWISD/TAFB partnership - LISD played a key role in facilitating this partnership between Fort Worth ISD and the Tarrant Area Food Bank which provides systemic improvements in student food insecurity.
Crowley ISD student experience practice 2020-2021 - LISD’s network successfully helped advocate for this change valuing student perspectives.
Strategic staffing model - Leadership ISD’s network played an active role in advocating for Fort Worth ISD’s new strategic staffing model that ensures the district’s highest quality teachers are in front of the highest needs students.
Monitoring Transparency - LISD’s Campus Voices cohort helped ensure increased transparency in the Fort Worth ISD board’s monitoring of student outcomes, including at public meetings.
