Alumni Spotlight: Rayna Glasser, Class of 2023

Rayna Glasser has 17 years of experience as an educator and currently serves as a math teacher and math department chair at Dunbar High School. “Working in the public school system, I see first-hand the individual needs of our students," said Rayna. “One of the most important aspects of teaching is building relationships with my students and determining what their individual needs are then providing resources to remove barriers so all students have the ability to succeed.”

Rayna, a recent Civic Voices graduate, shared this of her experience. “This past year challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and have the uncomfortable conversations. It ignited a passion in me to use my voice and positional power to advocate for my students and for my colleagues. I learned so much this year about school board governance, legislation, and policy. I see a lot of things through a different lens than I did before, and I have a better understanding of how to effectively bring about change.”

One of Rayna's great passions is involving the next generation in the voting process. She serves as a court-appointed presiding judge for Tarrant County Elections and has recruited many students to serve as student poll workers over the years. Following Rayna's lead, some of those students have gone on to become alternate and presiding judges throughout Tarrant County.

Earlier this year, Rayna traveled to Austin during the Texas Legislative session to meet with several lawmakers and discuss various topics that were relevant to public education, advocating for her students, colleagues, and public education as a whole.

Rayna keeps a full schedule as an after-school coordinator, Class of 2024 sponsor, member of the Superintendent Advisory Council, and member of the District Curriculum Cadre. She is also in graduate school pursuing her principal certification. For fun, Rayna enjoys traveling and is on a mission to visit all 50 states by her 50th birthday.
