Alumni Spotlight - Josh Jenkins, Tarrant County '20

Josh Jenkins is an alum of the Tarrant County Campus Voices class of 2020. As a principal of an intermediate 6th grade school in Aledo, Texas, Josh’s role requires him take into account the student experience. Through the conversations about race and equity brought forth through his Leadership ISD fellowship, Josh has been able to navigate these topics daily on his school’s campus. According to Josh, testing is only a single component of student, and our legislators should work towards incorporating a community-based assessment, and decentralizing test scores and school rankings. For Josh, Leadership ISD was a commitment that was “absolutely worth it,” as it allowed him create his Leadership ISD Fellowship Family—a core group of people that he can continue to lean on and learn from. Josh recommends that anyone interested in education advocacy should apply for a Leadership ISD fellowship, and that you should brace yourself to “learn beyond what you think you know.”
