Alumni Spotlight: Ryan Edwards, Class of 2020

While his day job as a project manager for MEP Consulting Engineers keeps Ryan Edwards busy working on engineering systems, primarily within airports, he is also very passionate about education and helping raise up the next generation of engineers. Ryan believes education is the best investment we can make as a society but is well aware of the disparities in our schools that hurt both our children and our communities.

“Inequities throughout education deprive ALL of our children from maximizing their potential,” Ryan shared. “No other area in society is more ripe for change and no other area in society promises a greater return on our collective investment than education. If we want positive change in our world, it will only come if we make the required investment in our children.”

Ryan is particularly committed to supporting students interested in pursuing STEM degrees. He is a board member for the Fort Worth chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers), which along with focusing on creating healthier and more efficient built environments, works with local K-12 schools and colleges to help students learn about the field. “It is critical to our industry that our educational system prepares young minds for the technical and social aspects of a career in engineering.”

Ryan loves spending time with his partner, Bethany Edwards, and their two children and takes every opportunity to be outside and grill in their backyard. A family of education advocates, Bethany is director of the Early Learning Alliance in Tarrant County.
