Alumni Spotlight: Prisma Y. Garcia, Class of 2019

Prisma Garcia serves as a social impact strategist at MoneyGram, supporting groups that have an impact on financial literacy, economic development, and workforce readiness. She is passionate about educational equity and sees strong connection points in her work and community service. In her view, every sector and industry can play an important role in our education system, helping to ensure all students are prepared to be successful adults.

The daughter of immigrants and a product of Texas public schools, Garcia believes "education is still the greatest equalizer in our society." "I am personally drawn to this cause because I have identified many gaps through my own public school experience," shared Prisma. "There is a need for more support for families and communities. We need high-quality teachers and systems that provide them with what they need to educate our children.”

Prisma is a co-founder and board member of Community Does It, the first mental health clinic in the 75217 zip code serving youth and their families. Prisma is also on the board of several other community organizations including Equest, Refugee Services of Texas, St. Mary of Carmel School, ReadUp, Somos Tejas, and La Alianza DFW.

Earlier this year, Prisma was named an honoree for the Leaders in Diversity Awards by the Dallas Business Journal. This award highlights leaders who bolster equality across all areas of diversity, including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, and religion. In her free time, Prisma loves spending time with her family, traveling, meeting new people, and watching Notre Dame football in the fall.
