Program Manager - Harris County
REPORTS TO: Regional Director
Leadership ISD has programming in Dallas, Tarrant, and Harris Counties and is growing in Texas. Between the three regions we serve the over 1.4 million students in our public schools and advocate for equity and excellence for every single one of them. The work of the organization is overseen by the CEO and a Board of Directors. Each region (Dallas, Harris, and Tarrant) has a Regional Director and an active advisory board to help guide and support the work locally. Regional Directors are empowered to build a team to support them as they execute all aspects of the program. The organization supports each region with communications, fundraising, curriculum and program development, and an operational framework.
LISD Harris County seeks an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial Program Manager who can leverage three years of program momentum in the Harris Region to grow our network of informed, engaged and activated citizen leaders and expand our mission for educational equity and excellence. The Program Manager supports all core programs and the work of their team. This role provides programmatic and logistical support, contributes to the team’s vision, and is integral in executing on the advocacy and policy strategy in Harris.
The Program Manager for Harris County will have a critical role in shaping how their community views, supports, and transforms public education with a focus on creating an informed electorate, training and activating advocates for education policies and practices that support improving student achievement, and supporting effective and student outcomes focused school boards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for social justice and education, and an interest in facilitation, policy, equity, and advocacy.
Manage the signature Civic Voices Fellowship program including program design, recruitment, strategic communications, logistics for monthly sessions, school visits, board meetings and the fellowship practicum experience.
Introduce new Fellowship programming including program design, strategic communications, recruitment and logistics.
Build strong relationships with the Fellows, Alumni and community partners. Identify opportunities to develop and collaborate on community programming that informs the electorate, places students at the center and allows Fellows, Alumni and experts to lead with content expertise.
Work with Alumni to develop and execute programming and strategies to mobilize the growing Leadership ISD and broader network in Harris County, as more informed and activated community advocates.
Monitor current policies, trends and events in education; attend school board meetings and briefings; collect articles, research, or artifacts to use for program sessions; develop meaningful experiential learning activities for adults; assist in identifying and organizing experts and guest speakers.
Work collaboratively with the Harris County Regional team and Leadership ISD organizational team to ensure programming and communications are aligned and supportive of regional and organizational goals.
Other duties as assigned; Availability to work occasional nights and weekends
3+ years working in program or project management
Excellent relationship builder
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects independently
Ability to produce quality work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing dynamics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills across a variety of mediums
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
Emotional intelligence in dealing with sensitive issues and an equity mindset
Proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Google Drive, Canva, Mail Chimp, Constant Contact
Experience working with people from underrepresented demographic backgrounds (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, etc.)
Understanding and analysis of current issues affecting education
Advocacy or policy experience
