Xavier Allen Henderson is a Community Organizing Fellow with For Oak Cliff and the Commit! Partnership. Born and raised in Dallas specifically Pleasant Grove, Xavier is a proud graduate of Skyline High School and received his BA in Communication Studies from the University of North Texas in 2014. After graduating, Xavier moved back home to Dallas and began a career in marketing with Texas Instruments. After a year Xavier decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, and embarked on a path toward teaching to join Teach For America and taught 6th grade history through writing at KIPP Truth Academy in South Oak Cliff, coincidentally on the exact street he once lived. While teaching, Xavier sought development to increase the effectiveness of his instruction by attaining his Masters in Education from Southern Methodist University. Xavier continued his advocacy beyond the classroom by leading racial identity and anti-bias trainings with Teach For America, and expanding his knowledge of systems impacting schools gaining experience as a DISD Human Capital Management Policy Fellow. Xavier is passionate about collective social justice impact with marginalized communities at the center, and prioritizing stakeholder input and leadership to drive the work for the communities he calls home.
