Jalen Hemphill is currently an educator at The Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy. As the son of two educators, Jalen had always known the value of a quality education and wanted to be involved in education reform from a young age. After he graduated from high school with an Associate’s degree in 2012, he attended Seton Hall University where he was able to become more involved in the education reform movement in Newark through Students for Education Reform. While in college, he also worked on projects with the United Nations in New York and graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Diplomacy and International Relations in 2014. After graduation, Jalen was accepted to Teach for America (TFA) and was able teach in his hometown of Dallas. He taught English and served as the AVID Site Team Coordinator at L.V. Stockard Middle School, in the North Oak Cliff area. Jalen is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Education Administration and Policy, and looking forward to being more involved in his community.
