Hillary is a public policy professional with more than a decade of experience in nonprofit and government roles. She has primarily focused her policy efforts on access to justice and improving lives within marginalized communities. Closing the education achievement gap and ensuring quality public education for every child has been at the center of Hillary’s advocacy. In her former position at a local public policy organization in Washington, DC, she managed a school discipline project that examined school discipline policies and practices in traditional and charter public schools. The project produced a first-of-its-kind report that offered recommendations to lawmakers, policy leaders and educators to consider instead of resorting to harsh disciplinary policies and practices that can lead to school push-out. A daughter and granddaughter of educators in public schools, Hillary is an Austin, TX native who moved to Dallas with her family in the Fall 2015 from the nation’s capital. She has two young children, one who will be attending kindergarten in a DISD school this fall.
