Ashley was born in NY and raised in TX where she presently resides with her family. She has a passion for history and sports that is rivaled only by her love of getting to know people and building relationships. Her career path is one that has wound its way from kids to sports intermingled with a whole lot of travel.
Currently she works as an Impact Manager with City Year, a non-profit organization that works with school districts to positively impact the dropout rate and raise the number of at-risk students who are college ready and graduate on time. City year utilizes AmeriCorps volunteers to mentor and tutor students while building excitement about the learning process. Most recently, she was a Teacher’s Assistant with the Dallas Independent School District, and was employed at her alma mater working with the senior class as a College Readiness Coordinator. As mentioned, she has had a varied employment background. From event planning and sports travel to her many years working with the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas (as School Age Program Director) and her “favorite job” as a Youth Activities Manager working for Disney Cruise Line. She attributes many of the things she learned about herself and customer service to her time with Disney running youth programs and traveling the world!
Ashley has a passion for helping people and working to improve the lives of those who are less fortunate, and currently serves on the board of the Black Alumni of SMU in addition to being a general member of the Alumni Board. The idea of giving back while assisting her alma mater in becoming a viable option for other minorities like herself drives Ashley to continue to work in the community with youth directly.
