Shelly Whitfield has experienced the transformative power of education in her personal and professional life. She is the product of public education, having attended Birdville and Austin ISD schools, and having received a BA in English with a teacherÛªs certification from the University of Texas at Austin and an MEd in English Curriculum & Instruction from Arizona State University. As a provider of public education, Shelly taught English literature and writing at high schools and community colleges in Texas and Arizona for five years, and has been an adult literacy tutor for over 20 years. Her first teaching job was in the juvenile justice system where she learned every student can thrive when schools provide committed support for student success. Having moved nine times in fifteen years for Air Force and other professional opportunities, Shelly has served in the areas of project management for universities, communications for the transportation industry, public policy for non-profits, and educational and volunteer development for museums. Soon to be a consumer of public education, Shelly and her husband, Jeff, look forward to enrolling their son, Knox, in kindergarten next year at their neighborhood school.
